Donald J. Rubis

Director, Client Accounting Services Group

Don Rubis joined the firm of JS Morlu in June 2020 as Director, Client Accounting Services (CAS). As part of our senior management team, he is primarily responsible for managing client relationships, supervising CAS staff, ensuring quality work, and overseeing all outsourced services (bookkeeping, accounting, Chief Financial Officer Services, business advisory, and tax preparation). He creates and manages workflow, including deliverable schedules and checklists. He also manages information technology issues and prepares high level, value-added work such as budgeting, KPIs, forecasting, and other client-requested ad hoc reports. He facilitates the onboarding process for new clients, delving deeply to identify their needs so we deliver the best possible service.

Don has been in the accounting field for 25 years, mostly (but not exclusively) in the not-for-profit arena. He specializes in clients who need fund accounting for restricted funds and donations, such as 501(c) 3s and (c) 6s.

He obtained the majority of his training and early experience during his 12 years with Schreiner, Legge & Company, a mid-sized public accounting firm. When SL&Co merged with a Big 6 firm, he accepted a controller position with The National Commission for the Certification of Crane Operators, and remained there until March 2020.

In all of his positions, Don served as the sole accounting staff, performing all accounting functions: A/P, A/R, general ledger, reconciliations, payroll (outsourced through Paychex), and financial reporting. He is expert in Sage 50 (formerly Peachtree) software. He a served as a salesperson for Sage 50 and conducted training seminars for Peachtree in English and Spanish. He is a Quick Pro Advisor and also has experience with Sage Intacct and Bill.com.

Independent audits of his clients produced unqualified opinions with no adverse comments. Audits flow smoothly because he is well prepared for them: all cash and investment accounts are reconciled, as well as complete schedules of assets and liabilities tied to the general ledger.

Don obtained his Bachelor of Arts Degree (Spanish Language) from George Mason University in 1992. He later return to Northern Virginia Community College to earn his Accounting Certificate (cum laude) in 2002.
